Description
Description | The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) initiated a tender for a solitary frigate, inviting eleven international shipbuilding companies to submit proposals. Six companies submitted bids, including firms from South Korea, Türkiye, Singapore, and Spain. The project aims to enhance national defense capabilities with a minimum of 20% indigenous content and technology transfer. The RTN plans to acquire four new frigates by 2037, tendering them individually due to budget constraints. The FY2026 budget for the first phase is THB17.5 billion (US$534 million), with an additional THB35 billion (US$1.07 billion) requested for the first two frigates under the 2026-32 budget. |
