RPU Water and Electric Advanced Meter Replacement Project

Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) is undertaking a major multiyear project to replace all electric and water meters in its system. The new advanced meters will communicate directly with RPU via a secure two-way network, enabling remote meter reading, quicker outage detection, early service quality issue identification, and detailed usage data access for customers. The project will take about three years to complete, starting next year, with electric meter installations done mostly outside homes and water meter installations requiring appointments inside homes and businesses. The work will be performed by contractor WESCO.
