Description

Description

Social mediation intervenes to prevent or resolve tensions and conflicts, repair and preserve social links. It intervenes in several areas of community life. It works closely with all institutions, associations, municipal and social services, the police, the justice system, health and school authorities, etc.). It is based on respect for the rights of all citizens and their assumption of responsibility for living together in peace. It helps to deepen democracy, which is greatly threatened by the rise of authoritarianism and communitarianism. It promotes the creation of a new European right: access to mediation for all. This day-to-day practice needs to be organised and designed around a concept that can give meaning to the activities of all the actors involved, so that it can be identified, recognised and disseminated: this is the concept of the ‘Mediation City’. The aim of the VITEM project is to consolidate and promote this concept through the creation of a ‘European City and Territory Mediation Network’. The creation of this network will be based on the practice of ‘City Mediation’ in different contexts (urban metropolis, towns in their vicinity, medium-sized towns, rural areas, informal and precarious housing). 8 ‘VITEM Days’ will be organised. These will be an opportunity to bring together all the residents with the actors and partners in social mediation, as well as the local authorities, to strengthen their complementarity and consolidate a shared vision of their intervention towards their residents. Ten studies conducted by researchers and will be the subject of ten videos. The results of each of these field practices will be shared and disseminated through 8 webinars. They will then be formalised, aggregated and disseminated through the publication of a descriptive document and the wwriting of the ‘City Charter / mediation territory’ and the production of an overview video. These documents will form the basis of the ‘European Network of Mediation'
