LA RUMBA INTERCONTINENTAL is an international project that takes the cultural phenomenon of Rumba as a starting point to develop a participatory methodology for intercultural community building. Through a series of 3 field explorations with a unique constellation of partner organisations, we actively connect different Rumbero communities across Europe, Africa and the Americas. In this way we aim to jointly explore the cultural idiosyncrasies of this unique art form, and their know-how for cultural participation. Through the joint production of 3 festivals with workshops and performances, we want to give a tangible impulse to both the utilisation of this unique heritage, the stimulation of its contemporary expression, the connection of this art form with new target groups, the formation of a durable expertise network and the development of a unique participatory methodology. The latter will be useful elsewhere in the European and global cultural sector to connect individuals and communities from very different backgrounds in an inclusive, horizontal and above all co-creative way.
