RuRail Autonomous Mini-Train Project

RuRail is a project researching the implementation of autonomous, small-seat electric mini-trains on conventional railways in Spain. Inspired by the German REAKT initiative, it aims to use disused railway lines to connect low-demand destinations with driverless mini-trains that can carry 15 to 20 passengers. The project involves collaboration with the University of Granada and experts from Kiel University of Applied Sciences, focusing on aspects like territorial rebalancing, artificial intelligence, railway infrastructure, and signage. The project seeks to convert a disused section of the Granada-Antequera conventional railway network into a research and experimentation space for autonomous micro-trains.
