Description

Description

"The ""RurAll: Rural Alliance for Greater Democratic Participation"" project, led by the Municipality of Vouzela in collaboration with 13 entities across the European Union, aims to enhance democratic participation in rural communities by improving access to information, fostering citizen engagement, and strengthening democratic legitimacy in EU decision-making processes. Rooted in a thorough analysis of the specific needs of rural communities, which face challenges such as geographic isolation, limited access to resources, and a perceived disconnect from the broader political landscape, RurAll focuses on reducing disparities in electoral participation and political sentiment between urban and rural areas and combating misinformation to increase civic participation. The project's management strategy relies on a consortium of 14 partners from various EU countries, pooling resources and expertise to implement the project successfully through 6 events in 6 different countries of the EU. With ambitions to generate short, medium, and long-term effects including increased awareness of democratic rights and the importance of citizen participation, RurAll seeks to foster greater civic engagement in local decision-making processes, improve local policies and practices to better reflect the needs of rural communities, and promote changes in social and cultural norms towards greater gender equality and reduced discrimination. To ensure the project's impact endures beyond the EU funding period, RurAll will develop strategies to empower local leaders, establish local support networks, and create sustainable materials. Additionally, the project leverages synergies with other EU-funded initiatives addressing rural issues, democracy, and social inclusion, while also introducing innovations such as a guide for municipalities on democratic inclusion and civic participation."
