The Rural Infrastructure Laos project, Phase VII (RIP VII), which represents the seventh phase of the FC Rural Infrastructure in Laos program, aims to contribute to improving the socio-economic living conditions of the rural population in the project regions in Laos. To this end, selected rural roads and other smaller infrastructure in the southern provinces of Khammouane and Savannakhet are to be expanded or rehabilitated and made usable all year round. In addition, periodic and mechanical maintenance measures are to be carried out in the former program provinces and former program roads are to be expanded with climate change adaptation aspects in mind. The project sponsor is to be supported by training and further education measures in conjunction with the investment. An international consultant is to provide support with design, awarding of contracts, construction monitoring and acceptance. The aim of the project is the sustainable and year-round use of the expanded rural roads and other infrastructure by the target group. The target group of the project is the rural population in the catchment areas of the roads to be rehabilitated in the project regions and the employees of the project sponsor, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MPWT), who are to be trained. The total cost of the project is around EUR 11.5 million. The Laotian contribution will be around 15%. The German side is planning to provide a grant of EUR 10 million from budget funds. In addition, the implementation of an A+F measure worth EUR 0.6 million is proposed. The aim of the A+F measure is to strengthen the capacities of the provincial offices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (DPWTs) responsible for project implementation in planning and implementing the project measures, with a particular focus on the areas of maintenance and climate-adapted planning and implementation.
