Rural Development Programme

The Rural Infrastructure Programme includes the rapid and effective development of rural infrastructure through the development of rural roads and smaller infrastructure measures, such as markets, in the southern Shan State of Myanmar, starting with the Taunggyi district. A flanking accompanying measure is primarily intended to practice topics such as maintenance, planning and procurement procedures. Coordination with the TC measures is planned. The aim of the measure is the sustainable and year-round use of the developed rural roads and other infrastructure measures by the target group to improve access to markets, schools, health facilities and workplaces. The target group are the various road users and the rural, often poor population living in the catchment area of the roads in the Taunggyi district, who predominantly belong to ethnic minorities. The project is intended to make a contribution to the long-term development of rural areas and improve access to markets, professional qualifications, financial services, clinics and educational institutions. By promoting trade and exchange, employment opportunities and income can be created and thus market-based development can be promoted or made possible in the first place. By giving ethnic groups access to local economic centres, a contribution is made to national reconciliation and peacekeeping in Myanmar.
