The Project aims to improve the connectivity of selected lagging rural areas by strengthening the resilience of targeted rural and trunk roads and providing safer road conditions for users. The Project will finance interventions to enhance the provision of all-weather access of rural communities to the targeted rural and trunk roads. The interventions will focus on the most vulnerable levels of the road network and those closest to communities: rural roads and the departmental, or trunk, roads connecting to the primary network and major urban areas. The definition of the geographical area of the Project was based on an in-depth analysis for the prioritization of interventions, resulting in the areas of El Altiplano, Las Verapaces and El Corredor Seco. In addition, a strong citizen commitment is expected to consider the needs of the most marginalized local population in the roads selection and the nature of the works to be realized. The project will be implemented through 3 components: (i) Rural and Trunk Roads; (ii) Technical Capacity Building; and (iii) Project Management.
