The FC measure promotes the sustainable connection of isolated rural areas in the North (Phase I) and Adamaoua (Phase II) regions. The aim of the FC measures is to improve the sustainable and year-round use of rural road infrastructure and thereby enable rural households to increase agricultural production and improve their income. The planned investment measures are intended to improve the year-round accessibility of the roads in the project region. The measures are mainly intended to remove bottlenecks and obstacles, e.g. at river or swamp crossings on the rural roads, which in the long term will enable the target group to connect agricultural production areas to markets and access to resources to intensify agricultural production. The main target group is predominantly agricultural households classified as poor, most of whom operate at a subsistence level. In addition, the rest of the rural population also benefits from the measures through improved access to social infrastructure. A large part of the target group lives below the national poverty line. The total cost of the project, which is to be implemented as an open program, is estimated at EUR 32.5 million. A FC contribution of EUR 10 million is available to finance a first programme phase in the Northern Region.
