Rural Municipality of Beaver River No. 622/Village of Pierceland - Landfill Decommissioning Project

The project objective is to decommission and reclaim the former landfill, including three primary, former waste disposal areas, historically operated by the Village of Pierceland and Rusral Municipality of Beaver River No. 622 which is non-compliant with the best management practices for landfill construction. The landfill pits have a combined surface area of 2.59 hectares including the three former waste disposal areas (individual surface areas of 0.89 Ha, 0.18 Ha, and 0.78 Ha) and 0.74 m of intervening fill materials between the three waste disposal areas requiring reworking to facilitate proper closure and drainage. Decommissioning and reclamation of the proposed landfill will reduce the generation of leachate, which in turn increases capacity to reduce soil pollutants.
