The Rural Poverty Reduction Project in the State of Sergipe, aims at reducing the current high levels of rural poverty, by improving access to basic social, and economic infrastructure, while supporting as well productive activities. Project components will: 1) provide grants directly to community associations to finance small-scale investments, comprising a broad range of subprojects, including infrastructure, social investments, small scale agro-processing, and minor irrigation schemes; 2) finance technical assistance, and training to achieve institutional capacity, supported by consulting services, and other entities to assist in monitoring, supervision and evaluation tasks, including assistance for reforms, and on the use of information technology for community associations; and, 3) support the overall project coordination, monitoring and evaluation, to strengthen the effectiveness, and quality of project operations. In addition, the component will finance incremental operating costs of the State Technical Unit.
