Rural Water Sector Programme II (basket financing)

The Rural Water Sector II basket financing project supports the implementation of the National Sector Reform Programme for Rural Water and Sanitation (NRWSSP) in Zambia. In light of recent discussions with the partner government, this second phase of the project will not be implemented as basket financing but using regular project implementation modalities of Financial Cooperation (FC). The NRWSSP includes measures in the areas of water and sanitation (WuSV), policy development, capacity building, information management and operation and maintenance. The focus of FC support is on investments in the area of water and sanitation (WuSV). The overarching goal of the NRWSSP and thus of the FC measure is to provide the rural population with sustainable and appropriate access to safe WUSV. This is intended to create the basic conditions for improved health and poverty reduction among the rural Zambian population and to contribute to achieving the water-related SDGs. The immediate target group of the project is the predominantly poor rural population of Zambia, who are still inadequately supplied with drinking water and sanitation facilities. The recipient is the Republic of Zambia, represented by the Ministry of Finance. The project sponsor is the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation (MWDS).
