Description
Description | The aim of the project is to improve the water supply and wastewater disposal of the population in the semi-urban and rural areas of Adjara in terms of sustainability, access and supply/disposal security. This goal is to be achieved through investment measures to rehabilitate the existing and implement new water and wastewater infrastructure. The project is a supplement to the Municipal Infrastructure Georgia project, which has so far been limited to the city of Batumi and its surrounding area. The development policy objective of the project is to make a contribution to the development cooperation program in the governance sector by improving the supply of the semi-urban and rural population of Adjara with efficient, environmentally and climate-friendly, sustainable and consumption-oriented municipal water supply and wastewater disposal services. The overarching target group of the project is the semi-urban and rural population (around 215,000 people) of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, who will benefit from improved water supply and disposal infrastructure, educational measures on hygiene and the environment and water quality monitoring. Through the implementation of the program, 23,500 people as a direct target group will have access to a safe water supply and 39,500 people will have access to a safe wastewater disposal. The project measures include the implementation and rehabilitation of the municipal water supply and wastewater disposal in the project region as well as the necessary consulting services. The project is sponsored by the Adjara government, which is represented in the project implementation and the conclusion of the project contracts by the Ajara Water Alliance (AWA), founded by the government and the Adjara communities. |
