The aim of the program is to provide drinking water to around 450 small villages in the provinces of Tangier, Tétouan, Chefchaouen and neighboring areas in northwest Morocco that are not yet connected to the central water supply (FC-financed investments in around 150 of the 450 villages, consulting services at all locations). The project is part of the Moroccan government's national development program PRDTS (Programme for reducing territorial and social disparities). Although the program areas are located in one of the regions with the highest rainfall in Morocco, there is currently no adequate year-round drinking water supply, partly due to the natural situation, which makes it difficult to use groundwater resources that are already scarce. The program areas are therefore to be supplied via long-distance water pipes. In addition to building these long-distance water pipes, the program also includes building distribution pipes to the individual villages, which will allow the population to connect to the supply via house connections or taps. By providing clean drinking water, living conditions in rural areas are improved and a contribution is made to health and gender equality. In order to ensure the long-term effectiveness of this small-scale and complex program and to maximize the target group's benefit from the investment, the project is supported by an accompanying measure that serves in particular to involve and support the target group.
