Rwanda - Road Infrastructure Project

The Road Infrastructure Project is designed to contribute to the attainment of objectives defined in the transport sector policy which aims in priority, at preserving existing infrastructure. It’s in particular the rehabilitation of the country’s roads and bridges which have not been maintained for about ten years or which were destroyed during the war and genocide from 1990 to 1994. The areas concerned are located in the provinces of Cyangugu, Kibungo and Kigali-Ngali, where rural and inter-urban connections are among the most difficult in the country following the socio-political crisis and the torrential rains of 1997 and 1998. The project comprises five components which are the following: (i) works; (ii) monitoring of works, iii) road studies; iv) capacity building and awareness and v) project management. Through these different components, the project will help reduce poverty, in particular by opening up farm and industrial production areas, improve accessibility to basic social and administrative structures (hospitals, schools, administrations, etc).
