Description
Description | The Butare-Kitabi-Ntendezi tarred national road project (115 km) falls within the framework of implementation of the priority programme to improve its road network which supports the productive sectors in Rwanda. This classified road, which is part of primary road network, links the capital, Kigali, to the West and South of the country. It is an international highway, which is also the main access road to the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the supply of most food and manufactured products to Bukavu Region. The investment requirements for this project stem from the current situation of difficult movement on the road which serves a large population. The state of the road requires that it be adapted to demand needs in order to ensure quality service. The project covers: (A) periodic maintenance of Butare-Kitabi section (53km) which is currently in an average state, and rehabilitation of Kitabi-Crête Congo Nil- Ntendezi section (62 km) which is currently in very bad state; (B) associated facilities, including the development of 30 km of rural roads, and the protection/rehabilitation of about ten education and health centres; and (C) institutional support and project management. The duration of implementation is 43 months (April 2009 to October 2012). The total cost, exclusive of taxes and duties (ETD), of the entire project is estimated at UA 46.74 million. |
