The Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Adaptable Program Loan Project provide efficient and sustainable water and sanitation services in the Republic of Yemen's major urban areas. There are three project components to the project, the first component comprises three sub-components which finance civil works, goods, and equipment to rehabilitate and expand the water supply networks and related facilities (pumping stations, reservoirs); to rehabilitate and drill new boreholes; and to rehabilitate and expand wastewater networks and related facilities in eligible urban centers. Funds will also be made available to finance water supply, and water and wastewater projects in six small urban centers with undeveloped water and wastewater networks and that could not qualify to participate in phase one of the project. The second component supports institutional restructuring and improving managerial capacities of local corporations; to put in place an appropriate structure for a regulatory body for the urban water and sanitation sector in Yemen; to finance measures to monitor and audit the operator's performance; prepare studies related to the project; and prepare other water sector projects throughout Yemen. Finally, the third component provides the private operator, who is in a lease contract with Sana'a, with the funds to finance maintenance related works, goods, and consultancy services.
