Description | In October 2011, Hidrelgen S.A. was awarded the 50-year contract to build and operate the Sabanilla hydro power plant (capacity of 30 MW). The contract guarantees that all the power produced by the power plant will be purchased by the government during 15 years. The power plant was set to be build in the Sabanilla river, located at the Zamora Chinchipe province. The investment was estimated at US$ 60 million. Financial closure was announced in 2013, when part of Hidrelgen's shares were sold to the investment fund Fideicomiso Magisterio Energía Renovable (FMER) for US$ 12 million. In addition, US$ 44 million in funding was raised with a 10-year loan. Construction works commenced in November of the same year. |
