Sabarmati Smart District

The Sabarmati Smart District (SSD) is being developed around Ahmedabad’s bullet train station and Sardar Patel Sports Enclave. Part of the larger Charkha Integrated Polis (CHIP) project, it aims to become the city’s first smart business district, integrating offices, homes, hotels, and public spaces with advanced connectivity and sustainable urban design. The district spans 13.7 lakh sq m (around 338 acres), equivalent to 250 football fields, and includes high-rise residential buildings, commercial blocks, green corridors, and tech-driven public infrastructure. It emphasizes green infrastructure, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and tech-driven public services, making it one of Ahmedabad’s most walkable districts. The project is managed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), in coordination with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the state urban development department. Key physical works like road widening, flyovers, and underpasses are integrated with ongoing city infrastructure. The district also includes the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, designed as a hub for international sporting events, with Ahmedabad bidding to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympics. The district aims to link transport, business, housing, and leisure to create a global-ready, smart urban hub.
