Description

Description

The project consists of the construction of a solar power plant combined with a battery energy storage system that will be connected to the grid in Watson Lake, Yukon. The scope of the Sade Initiative project is the feasibility, design, and construction of a photovoltaic (PV) power plant combined with a battery energy storage system that will be connected to the Watson Lake grid. When running at full capacity (March to October), the plant will provide more energy than the peak loads, allowing for full generator off time. The PV plant will interconnect with the existing diesel microgrid, and power fluctuations and backup will be mitigated. Additional earthworks are specified as part of this project to prepare the site for the solar array and the access road will be upgraded to support the high volume of transport trucks. The power produced from this project will directly offset diesel consumption and contribute to reducing GHG emissions. The project is expected to offset 1,077,880 L of diesel equivalent to an offset of 2,977t GHG per year.
