South Asia Energy Management Systems LLC was planning the development of the 14MW Nyamwamba Mini Hydropower plant, near Kilembe village, Kasese district, Western Uganda. The project was to be run-of-river. No information about the contracts was available. Total project cost was estimated at $34 million. The project reached financial closure in January 2012, following a $24 million senior loan, of which $12 million was provided by the Dutch FMO, $6 million by the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund and, $4 million by DEG, and, $2 million by Finnfund. This implies $10 million in equity.
