The core of the Safe Playground project is a strong commitment to safeguarding in sports. Our mission is to create safer, more inclusive, and more supportive environments where athletes can thrive—both physically and mentally. By strengthening mental health awareness, structured governance, and accessibility to support systems, we aim to equip sports organizations across Europe with the tools they need to protect and empower athletes. Through improved mental health policies, digital communication solutions, specialized training programs, certification frameworks, and international collaboration, Safe Playground ensures that safeguarding is not just a concept but an active practice embedded in everyday sports culture. Building on the foundations of existing European projects, we refine and expand proven methodologies, developing a more comprehensive and precise framework that benefits both athletes and sports organizations. Our structured approach includes the creation of high-quality educational materials—both in print and through interactive video-based MOOC courses—alongside in-depth training sessions that prepare stakeholders to recognize and mitigate risks effectively. Certification processes further ensure that clubs and professionals are equipped to uphold the highest standards of safety in sports.
