The Safeguarding the Future (STF) is a project that aims to establish mechanisms in Kosovo, Estonia and Bulgaria that ensure a safe, positive and fun basketball experience for all people involved in basketball, with a special emphasis on children and young adults. The main goal of the project is to take action to protect people from any type of harm or abuse in basketball. To do this, the project will create safeguarding systems for all national basketball federations in Kosovo, Estonia and Bulgaria. Initially, a needs assessment will be carried out in all three countries to determine the level of current safeguarding in basketball. Based on the findings from the needs assessment, a basketball safeguarding policy will be drafted which will be adopted by the national basketball federations of the three countries. The policy will outline the measures to be taken to ensure the safety of all individuals involved in basketball, including ways to prevent and report any form of harm or abuse. The basketball safeguarding policy will include detailed procedures and guidelines for the implementation of these policies. The policies will clearly outline the roles and responsibilities in upholding the safeguarding measures for all individuals involved in basketball, including coaches, officials, volunteers, and players. It will also establish a system of checks and balances to ensure that these measures are being implemented effectively and consistently across all levels of the sport. These policies will also be communicated to all stakeholders in basketball, including basketball clubs, academies, and other relevant parties. Lastly, the project aims to do a thorough monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of these policies within the national basketball federations of Kosovo, Estonia and Bulgaria. This will ensure that the policies are being effectively implemented and that they are achieving their intended outcomes.
