The Danish Safer Internet Centre (SIC DK) is a consortium of three organisations with each their primary work task as respectively awareness centre (Media Council for Children and Young People/MCDK1), hotline (Save the Children Denmark/SCDK) and helpline (Centre for Digital Youth Care/CDYC). The partners have worked together as a SIC since 2009 and each have a longstanding experience in their respective fields. The consortium has created a comprehensive framework for the promotion of children and young people’s digital competences and well-being in the digital society. The SIC-partners are known, recognised and supported by multiple private and public stakeholders, ministries and government agencies in Denmark. The key objective of the awareness centre (MCDK1) is to establish partnerships, plan events, media coverage, dialogue campaigns and tools to empower and raise awareness among children and youth, professionals, parents and the public in general. MCDK1 is the coordinator of SIC DK. The key objective of the hotline (SCDK) is to reduce the distribution of illegal images by receiving and managing reports and data on online child sexual abuse material. The key objective of the helpline (CDYC) is to provide services for reporting and dealing with harmful online contact, conduct and content. SIC DK works to make the Internet a safe and trustworthy environment, give voice to children and young people and help them to tackle online risks. SIC DK emphasize the role of media and digital literacy in developing education, citizenship, cultural exchange and innovation. The work and approach in SIC DK correspond closely with the objectives for SICs under the Digital Europe Programme with focus on major aspects of the current challenges and opportunities children and young people might encounter within the digital environments.
