The SII10 Project Proposal is aligned with the objectives and activities set out in the DIGITAL-2023-DEPLOY-04-NETWORK-OF-SICs Call for Proposals. The Irish SIC services are the primary means for the implementation of the European Better Internet for Kids (BIK+) strategy, namely; (i) safe digital experiences to protect children; (ii) digital empowerment; and (iii) active participation, respecting children. Hotline service (BEN2), where members of the public can securely and confidentially report suspected illegal content online, especially child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and technology facilitated sexual exploitation of children. With the support of national and international partners, Hotline.ie works to have online illegal content swiftly removed at source. Awareness Centre (BEN3) for raising awareness among children, parents, teachers, and professionals working with children about online opportunities and emerging risks, challenges, related to the use of technology, through training and by building on Safer Internet repositories from which education resources and services will be audience-tailored and deployed in cooperation with third parties. Helpline services providing 24/7 information and support to children and emotional support to parents/carers (BEN4), and parents/guardians helpline (BEN5) on issues primarily relating to harmful content and conduct online, and children’s use of digital technologies and services. SII10 builds on the results of previously successful EU co-financed Projects implemented by the Irish SIC consortium, while further developing, as feasible, its services delivery to achieve greater protection for all children and young people. The Irish SIC Advisory Group provides insight, guidance, advice and assistance to the Irish SIC, and acts as an advisory group on all aspects of Internet safety and children’s rights in the digital environment. Following the appointment of an Online Safety Commissioner in Ireland and enactment of the Online Safety Media Regulation Act, the Irish SIC has been liaising with the Commissioner and appointed regulatory body Coimisiún na Meán (Media Commision).
