Description

Description

The SII9 Project Proposal is aligned with the objectives and activities set out in the DIGITAL-2021-TRUST-01-SAFERINTERNET – Safer Internet Centres (SICs), Call for Proposals. The Irish SIC services are the primary means for the implementation of the European Strategy for a Better Internet for Children, namely (i) promoting positive online experience for children; (ii) awareness and empowerment (including digital/media literacy); (iii) creating a safe environment for children; and (iv) combating online child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. Hotline service (Appl2), where members of the public can securely and confidentially report suspected illegal content online, especially child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and technology facilitated sexual exploitation of children. With the support of national and international partners, Hotline.ie works to have CSAM swiftly removed at source and referred to law enforcement so that the children in the imagery may be identified and safeguarded. Awareness Centre (Appl3 ,4 & 5) for raising awareness among children, parents, teachers, and professionals working with children about online opportunities and emerging risks, challenges, related to the use of technology, through training and by building on Safer Internet repositories from which education resources and services will be audience-tailored and deployed in cooperation with third parties. Helpline services providing 24/7 information and support to children (ISPCC:Appl4), and parents/guardians helpline (NPC:Appl5) on issues primarily relating to harmful content and conduct online, and children’s use of digital technologies and services. SII9 builds on the results of previously successful EU co-financed Safer Internet Actions implemented by the Irish SIC consortium, while further developing, as feasible, its services delivery to achieve greater protection for children and young people. The Irish SIC Advisory Board will be complementary to the wider National Advisory Council for Online Safety (NACOS), which brings together non-governmental, technology companies, academic stakeholders, under Ministerial oversight. It is envisioned to provide support, input, specialist knowledge and act as a sounding board to assist the SII9 project team in reviewing key plan concepts, outputs and strategies.
