Description | The proposed project consists of the following components: (a) institutional dvelopment - provision of the means to plan and monitor agricultural development in the region, including establishment of a monitoring system for water resource use and water and soil quality, strengthening of the applied research, training institutions and extension services, and creation of an agency for operation and management of the drainage infrastructure, and development of a Project Management Unit to coordinate project implementation; (b) rehabilitation of oases - drilling of wells, provision of pumping equipment and construction of irrigation and drainage networks; (c) on-farm development - agriculture improvement and supply of inputs; and (d) studies, technical assistance and training - preparation of development plans, feasibility and environmental assessments for future investments in the sector, provision of technical assistance and training. |
