Description

Description

The project supports the rehabilitation of 4 existing solid waste landfills in Colville Lake, Fort Good Hope, Norman Wells and Tulita by increasing volumetric capacity by 59,580 cubic metres (total across all sites). The capacity increase will result from the excavation and diversion of 2,690 tonnes of bulky and/or hazardous recyclable materials from the existing landfill sites to facilities located offsite. The project also includes the construction and development of new hazardous waste secondary containment infrastructure to improve the long-term hazardous waste management at the facilities. The project proposes to extend the life of the existing solid waste facilities by a total of 41 years. The project will result in the reduction of soil and air pollutants through rehabilitation and capacity increases, thus mitigating environmental risks as a result of the current hazardous waste issues and inefficient facilities.
