Description | In February 2007, provincial authorities of Ba Ria Vung Tau awarded Saigon International Terminals Vietnam Ltd (SITV) a 50 year BOT contract for a container terminal in the southern part of the province. Saigon International Terminals Vietnam Limited (SITV) was a joint venture between Hutchison Port Group (70%) and Vietnam’s Saigon Investment Construction and Commerce Co Ltd (30%). The latter one was a state-owned enterprise. The project's cost was estimated at US$267 million. The port was expected to have three berths with a total length of 700 meters and a terminal yard of 33.7 hectares. The facility was expected to accommodate vessels of up to 60,000DWT and have a throughput capacity of about 1.1 million TEUs a year. Construction started in August 2008 and was expected to be completed in 2010. SITV commenced commercial operation on August 24, 2010 |
