Description
Description | This proposal responds to the call for projects to be funded under the SAIO PPP Use Statistics Data Collection 2026, addressing the need for effective data collection on the use of plant protection products (PPP) in agriculture. This project aligns with key EU strategies, including the Green Deal, the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, and the Farm to Fork Strategy, all of which aim to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture and ensure food security. Additionally, it supports the European Data Strategy by contributing to the harmonized collection of agricultural data across the EU. The Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1537, which requires Member States to collect data on permanent grassland and a set list of 21 crops and both integrated and organic farming methods, covering at least 75% of the utilised agricultural area for the reference year 2026. The absence of a centralized, electronic register in Austria and the lack of available administrative data would disproportionate increases the burden for the collection of the 2026. The proposed solution is to conduct a sample survey, which also involves collecting data through Farm Management Software (FMS), which will streamline the process, reduce the reporting burden, and provide high-quality, reliable data. The project will establish a robust statistical foundation on use of PPPs in Austria, to support EU policy development, monitoring, and evaluation, enabling more effective decision-making at regional, national, and European levels. It will facilitate the collection and transmission of PPP-use statistics to Eurostat, ensuring compliance with EU regulations. The adoption of data already available in Farm Management Software systems will streamline the process as well as reduce administrative burdens. |
