It has recoverable reserves estimated at 2.3 billion barrels of oil and 17.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The project began commercial production in 2005 with ExxonMobil as operator. In 2022, ExxonMobil withdrew due to sanctions, leading to a collapse in production. In 2025, Russia amended its decree to allow the possible return of foreign companies, including ExxonMobil, under strict conditions related to sanctions, equipment supply, technical cooperation, and fund transfers. |
