Sale of Consumers Energy Hydropower Dams

planned

Consumers Energy plans to sell its suite of 13 hydropower dams to Confluence Hydro, LLC, a subsidiary of Hull Street Energy, a private equity firm. The sale includes the dams and surrounding land, with Consumers seeking approval from Michigan's energy regulators. Consumers will purchase the hydropower generated by the dams at a higher price to incentivize maintenance. The dams are about 100 years old and require costly repairs and maintenance. The sale aims to offload operational and environmental liabilities from Consumers to Confluence Hydro.
