Salt Spring Island - Grow Together Project

The project will increase food security on Salt Spring Island by expanding two existing community gardens. The Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust Society’s mandate is to develop infrastructure and foster relationships that build long term food sustainability within the community. There has been community concern about food insecurity and a focus on increasing local food production. The expansion will increase the amount of food that can be produced for vulnerable community members. The project work includes: - construction of additional raised beds for the community garden; - establish a mixed fruit tree orchard and traditional perennial food garden adjacent to the raised beds; - develop and install one outdoor composting toilet; - design and install 2 handwashing stations; - design and install irrigation system using recovered rainwater; and, - all related works.
