Description | The Saluda Grade Rail Trail is a 31-mile trail planned along the old Saluda Grade railway, running from Inman to Zirconia, North Carolina, passing through several foothills towns. The project includes 15 miles of trail in South Carolina, with a 12-foot-wide asphalt trail in rural areas and a 16-foot-wide trail through downtown Landrum, including concrete sections for connections to sidewalks and developments. Spartanburg County has requested the release of a $6 million federal HUD grant to fund pre-construction work, including surveying, engineering, and permitting. The northernmost 5-mile section is prioritized for pre-construction, with plans to seek additional funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission for construction. The trail is planned to be built in stages dependent on funding, with potential trail completion by the end of 2028. |
