Description
Description | This project extended Salzman Road from its terminus north of State Route 63 at a Kohl's Distribution Center 0.52 mile through farmland to the terminus of Yankee Road at Todhunter Road. The project improved what was once a dead-end road serving an industrial park in Monroe into a major through-route for truck traffic serving an industrial park in neighboring Middletown. The project had been a priority for Butler County and the cities of Middletown and Monroe since 1994. Project benefits include improved mobility for commuters and truck traffic connecting between Todhunter Road and State Route 63. Heavy truck traffic now has a direct link between industrial parks in the cities of Middletown and Monroe and an alternative to a parallel route, which passes by a local school. In addition, the project is expected to facilitate increased industrial and commercial development in the region, including a new $16 million distribution facility. The Butler County Transportation Improvement District coordinated project design and funding, including securing funding from the cities of Middletown and Monroe, federal grants through the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments, and state money from the Ohio Department of Transportation. Construction involved coordination between the project contractor and Duke Energy, which was tasked with raising high tension electric transmission lines on the project site. |
