Description	The Samalpatti Power Co. was awarded the project to build, own and operate a 106-MW oil fueled power plant in the state of Tamil Nadu. The company is a joint-venture of Ogden Corp. (49%), Shapoorji Pallonji Group (40%) and Wartsila (11%). Ogden Corp., besides being the major shareholder, is also the O&M contractor for the project. Wartsila, in turn, is the EPC contractor. Financial closure for the US$102.2 million project was achieved in Jan. 2000. Six banks and financial institutions participated in the debt financing portion of the cost (US$72.33 million), which was signed in the end of Jan. 2001. There is no foreign debt component and the remainder of the cost will be financed through equity. Construction works started in Feb. 2000 and commercial operation began in first quarter 2001.
