Description

Description

Information East Coast Railway [ECoR] - II has come up with Sambalpur-Jarapada 3rd & 4th line [2 x 127 km ] with a ticket size of 3573.64 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is DPR/Feasibility Study and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project The existing double line between Sambalpur city to Jarapada is saturated with 92 percent of line capacity utilization. This line caters the coal traffic of Talcher to various power, steel and Aluminium plants in Jharsuguda area. M/s AMNS [Arcellor Mittal Nippon Steel] is setting up two new steel plants at Paradip. M/s JSPL Steel plant at Angul is expanding its capacity from 4 to 12 MTPA. The additional freight traffic for the 3rd and 4th line taken in the first year as 26.81 MT, 33.28 MT in 6th year and 41.32 MT in lltn year. The existing freight traffic is 36.10 MMT. Thus freight in the line is slated to grow rapidly @ 7.3 percent over next 10 years. The project route has been identified as a part of 'Energy Corridor' due to coal movement. Several industries are dependent on coal supply from Talcher coalfields which is in the vicinity of project. Contiguous sections of project are being provided with 3rd and 4th line which will put pressure on the project route to move extra traffic. The existing freight speed is 23 kmph which needs to be increased to 40 kmph or more to improve availability of rakes for loading without commensurate increase in wagon holding. Commercial coal mining by private players is on the way at Talcher after which coal movement is expected to rise substantially. Mission 3000 MT envisages doubling of freight loading from 2021 level to 2027 with a view to increase market share from 27 percent to 45 percent. The project is included in the 'Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridors' and received support from the Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Coal & Ministry of Power.
