Description

Description

Samsung C&T Renewable Energy Australia intends to install a 200-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Queensland and is seeking environmental review for the plan. The Block BESS is planned to be situated south of Townsville, comprising 192 modular battery units arranged in a grid configuration alongside 48 inverter transformers. Each battery unit will have built-in temperature regulation and fire suppression systems. The project disturbance area is around 4.68 hectares, located near existing grid infrastructure. The battery will store excess electricity from nearby renewable power plants and inject it into the grid during peak demand, improving grid stability and reliability. The estimated launch date is March 31, 2027, with an expected operational lifespan of 32 years through 2059.
