The project envisages the construction and operation of a 205.8 MW hydro power plant in Carabaya Province, Puno Region. Project is being undertaken by a Joint venture of China Three Gorges Corporation and EDP Energías de Portugal - Hydro Global Peru S.A.C. This is a greenfield project launched on a Build operate and transfer basis. The concession period has a duration of 30 years, at the end of which the ownership of the facility will be transferred to Empresa de Generacion Electrica San Gaban (EGESG). The contract was won following a competitive bidding process. Criteria was not disclosed. The total output generated by the plant will be supplied to National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) over the lifespan of the concession. Total investment is estimated at $438 million and is funded by debt and equity in 83:17 ratio. Project finance was provided by China Development Bank in November 2017 in the amount of $365 million. The remaining $73 million is contributed as equity by the two sponsors, in equal proportion - $36.5 million each.
