Description

Description

The project entails the construction of a PET bottle recycling plant, located in in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The project required an investment of US$15 million. Sponsors of the project is Inversiones Materiales (INVEMA). Financial close took place in 2016. The plant is processing 2,000 tonnes/month. In a multi-stage process, the bottles are pre-sorted, size-reduced, washed cold and hot and, after drying, forwarded to a flake sorting step. After sorting, the PET bottles are size-reduced in two Herbold granulators with a capacity of 1,800 kg/hour. In a second step, a hot washing plant was installed for treating the polyolefine fraction from the recycling process, i.e. the caps and labels of the bottles. After regranulation, the end-product is sold to the local Coca Cola bottle producer. Part of the energy needed for the recycling plant is produced on-site with 3,640 solar panels on the roof of the plant that are generating 1 MWe. Acucomm files
