Description

In 1998 the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, through its Comision Estatal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado, awarded a built-own-operate contract for two wastewater treatment plants to private company Proagua Potosi. The project covered the design, construction and operation of the two plants. The plants recycled water from the city of San Luis Potosi and used it for agricultural irrigation. Proagua Potosi was a joint venture of Mexico’s Grupo Marhnos and Canadian company SNC Lavalin. Information on the exact stakes of the two sponsors in the joint venture was not publicly available. The total cost of the project was estimated at $65 million (C$ 94.75 million). Of this total some C$ 5 million were to be provided by the Canadian partner.
