Sangtuda 2 Hydropower Plant

Iranian Sangob was developing the 220MW Sangtuda 2 Hydropower Plant on the Zeravshan river. The project consisted of two turbines of 110MW each -run-of-river. The project was executed under a BOT contract with a length of 12.5 years. The first turbine was commissioned in September 2011, construction began in September 2006. The main contractor was Omran Maroon. Equipment was supplied by a Chinese firm. The project was started in the 1980s but was put on hold after the fall of the USSR. In the early 1990s Iran expressed interest to assist, but a deal was not reached until 2005. Construction lasted 5 years, therefore it is assumed that FC was reached in January 2008 (25%). The project was valued at $220 million, of which $180 million was provided by Iran and $40 million by Tajikistan.
