Description | The system included 18-MW of generating capacity as well as distribution lines for a concession area that, in 1993, had approximately 100,000 customers in a total population of 672,000. In that year, the system sold 270 million Kwh, which generated revenues for $27 million. The provincial government of Santiago del Estero sold a 90% equity stake for $15 million to Houston Industries Inc. (USA) in January 1995. Houston Industries is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based CenterPoint Energy. In 2003, Houston (by way of CenterPoint) disposed of its 90% stake in Edese by selling its shares to a group of local investors. The price of the transaction was not disclosed but the local investors did assume the utility's debt. |
