Description | The Santos-Guarujá immersed tunnel is a 1.5-kilometer tunnel with 870 meters submerged under the Santos Port channel, connecting Macuco in Santos to Vicente de Carvalho in Guarujá. It includes six traffic lanes, a reversible lane for future Light Rail Vehicle operation, a bike lane, and a catwalk. The tunnel is designed to reduce travel time from up to an hour to approximately two minutes, improve mobility and logistics in the Baixada Santista region, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 53%. The project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with a 30-year contract, involving public investments of R$5.4 billion and private investments of R$1.78 billion. The construction involves six precast reinforced concrete modules, each about 140 meters long, built in a dry dock and submerged in the riverbed. |
