Description | In December 2015, the LDC Brasil BSL Consortium, a partnership of the companies Louis Dreyfus Commodities (France) and Cargill (USA), was awarded the contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the Terminal Ponta da Praia located at the Santos Port, municipality of Santos, State of Sao Paulo. The terminal was set to handle grain cargo. Besides LDC Brasil BSL Consortium, only another company took part in the bidding process: Agrovia S.A. The bidding criteria was the highest amount for the concession rights. The winning bid was an amount of US$ 86.9 million (BRL 303 million). The special purpose company LDC Brasil BSL Consortium was established to manage the project. The 25-year contract was signed in May 2016, and the sponsors took over the project in the first semester of 2016. Investment in the project was estimated at US$ 59.1 million (BRL 206 million), besides a monthly lease to be paid to CODESP (the port administrator), which would amount to US$ 232.2 million (BRL 810 million) during the 25-year period. The terminal is expected to reach a capacity of 4.1 million tons/year once operating at full capacity by 2018. |
