Sao Tome and Principe - Human Resources Development Support Project

The proposed intervention is a support for the preparation of a good project on strengthening the training and skills of youths and current workers. The resulting project will make more effective the national poverty reduction strategy and increase workers’ competitiveness. This preparation phase will help to: (i) Diagnose the major human resource development constraints (workers’ education, employment and retraining); (ii) Prepare specific actions to qualify poor women heads of family and children who dropped out of school early; (iii) Define a framework indicating the financial implications of the new thrusts, with a view to assisting the Government in selecting the most appropriate strengthening activities in the education sector; (iv) Prepare a project technical brief and procurement documents for a new project. The total cost is estimated at UA 0.251 million, net of taxes. The implementation schedule is planned for a maximum of 8 months from July 2001.
