Description

The Programme for Drinking Water Supply, Sanitation and Control of Waterborne Diseases (DWSS/WBDC) stems from the DWSS MP study, carried out to the satisfaction of all the partners, the lessons drawn from previous experiences in the control of malaria and diarrhoeal diseases in Sao Tome, and new approaches to those issues recommended by WHO and the International Community. It constitutes one of the Government’s priority objectives, and is in keeping with those defined in the Bank’s CSP for the country. Its implementation will lead to a sustainable improvement in the living environment and health conditions of the beneficiaries, and will also have a positive impact on the economy. The main components of the programme are: (i) Rehabilitation and Extension of the DWSS Systems; (ii) Water-Borne Disease Control; (iii) Programme Management and Monitoring.
