Description
Description | The present study project constitutes the preparatory phase of implementation of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiatives (RWSSI) in Sao Tome and Principe. This programme is fully consistent with the African Development Bank’s medium-term intervention strategy. It aims to support the water and sanitation sector in order to ultimately achieve poverty reduction objectives by rolling back waterborne diseases, cutting health care spending and promoting income-generating activities for vulnerable populations. The Study is planned to be conducted over a 24-month period and lead to the development of a National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme by 2030. The programme will help to establish an improved framework for efficient coordination of the water and sanitation sector, and the planning and management of increased investments in the sector. The capacity of sector stakeholders will be built (State, local governments and users). It is also expected that implementing the programme ultimately improve the rural drinking water and sanitation access rate. |
