Description | The 60,000 T capacity Underground Rock Cavern for LPG storage for SAPLG is 200 m below sea level, sitting under a 13-acre Greenfield site at the foot of a hillock called Dolphin's Nose. The above ground package called for the construction of process facilities for the unloading of propane and butane, blending them into LPG prior to transfer into the cavern. The underground cavern required 1,30,000 cu.m. of hard rock excavation, a 15 m water curtain above the main cavern and two major vertical shafts. The main cavern itself is 352 m in length, 20 m in width and 20 m in height and 6-storeys underground. |
